Personality theories attempt to identify the origins of personalty and examine how personality develops. Throughout the history of psychology, different psychologists have offered various personalities, each one contradicting some idea of the other. It is possible to examine personality using multiple parts of different theories, while certain characters may be best described by one theory. Although Kurt Cobain, a complex character, cannot possibly fit into any one personality theory perfectly, parts of his personality can be explained using theories created by Alfred Adler and Carol Rogers. Kurt Cobain was born on February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington. His mother Wendy was a waitress and his father Donald was a mechanic. He attempted suicide on March 4, 1994, but the incident was deemed an accident. On April 7, 1994, Cobain shot and killed himself. He left a note to his wife and daughter that ended â€Å"I love you, I love you† (personal communication, April 7, 1994). As a child, Cobain’s main influence was Evel Knievel, and he was determined to be reckless and fearless like his hero. As Cobain grew older, however, his influences became primarily musical, and included Neil Young, nicknamed the â€Å"Godfather of Grunge,† the Beatles, and various alternative bands (DeRogatis, para. 8). His major accomplishments were his recordings, as Cobain was known as a lyricist more than a musician, despite his short-lived career. Cobain’s personality fits rather easily into Alfred Adler’s theory of personality, especially in terms of style of life and birth order. This concept illustrates that the present value of money on hand at time zero will be worth more in the future depending on the interest rate prevalent in the market (Besley and Brigham, 2000). In the questions given had to find out the present value of money at different interest rates as well as time periods. We used the formula S=P (1+r) ^t where â€Å"S† represents the future amount, â€Å"P† represents the present amount, â€Å"r† represents rate of interest and â€Å"t† represents time period. This formula is frequently used in order to determine the worth of money on hand in the future. In the first question we were given the interest rate, future value and the time period. By using this formula we get the present value of the amount. Question 2 gave us two options with their future value, interest rate as well as time. W e calculated the present value of both the options by the same formula as illustrated previously. Question 3 presented us with three different cash flows and we had to discount them back to get their present value. This brings us to another concept of discounted cash flow. Discounted cash flow or DCF is a natural consequence of the time value of money. It works on the principle that a dollar today is not worth the same as a dollar in future (Ehrhardt Brigham 2004). DCF analysis takes the cash flows for each period and discounts it back to time zero (t=0) i.e. today. We applied DCF concept to get present value of all future cash flow using S=P (1+r) ^t formula. Different questions in the assignment resulted in different answers but the formula, method and the reason of doing the question is same which is to calculate the present value of the amount. Hence, it has been concluded that with the help of the above mentioned formula one can easily project the present value of the future amount and can invest accordingly without being deceived. The social studies concepts discussed in the lesson were political parties, the role of campaigning, and the impact of media on citizens’ decisions. Twenty -five students are seated in pods of four. One girl in the back is putting on eyeliner and eye shadow. She frequently chats with two boys seated at her table. She proceeds to mash zits. Two girls and one boy socialize in the back of the class. They are more concerned about the social complexities of the school rather than listening. However, periodically one will shout out a correct answer without interrupting the flow of the social conversation. One girl, sitting in the back of the class, totally isolates herself and has no verbal or nonverbal communication with her peers or the teacher. A quiet boy and two girls sit at a table located in the front of the class. Another girl gets up and walks around the room. She is told to sit down, which she does, and in five minutes gets up and walks around again. She is struggling to stay in her seat and is clearly unconcerned with the class discussion. A boy in the center of the class covers his head with his hood, lays his head down, and goes to sleep. Two other girls at his table are engaged in a conversation about who will be homecoming queen. What is a teacher to do with a class like this? This is a perplexing situation, yet a common dilemma teachers encounter. Many teachers struggle with the lack of student interest in the content which translates into a lack of motivation to learn. This is especially prevalent in social studies classrooms. Research indicates that students often are uninterested in social studies because they perceive it as a boring subject (Schug, Todd, Berry, 1984; Shaughnessy Haladyana, 1985). Students tend to equate uninteresting with unimportant; thus, students are not motivated to learn social studies content due to the lack of value of the content. Educators suggest that lack of student interest in social studies is related to the instructional methods utilized in disseminating information (Martorella, 1997). This paper describes my investigation of technology integration in social studies instruction to build an understanding of why technology is being used to teach social studies content. Given the nature of social studies instruction and the need to engage students in the learning process, I selected motivational theory as a theoretical frame for this research. Motivational Theory To clarify a general misconception, motivation and ability are not equivalent. Motivation refers to what a person will attempt, yet ability is defined as what a person can do (Pintrich Schunk, 1996). Thus, the purpose of motivation theory is to explain student behavior and influence future behavior. Recent theories of motivation can be categorized as variations of expectancy-value model of motivation (Pintrich Schunk, 1996).
